Job summary

City of Clemson seeks a bus driver to transport passengers on city routes and educational tours under regular supervision. The role includes performing pre/post walk-around inspections, fuel and tire checks, and basic bus maintenance tasks. CDL-B with passenger endorsement required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; on-the-job training may be provided.
  • Commercial Driver's License Class B or better with passenger endorsement; no air brake restriction.
  • No indications of required specialized tools beyond standard driving credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with local traffic regulations.
  • Performs pre- and post walk-around inspections.
  • Reports changes in routes, delays or accidents.
  • Gets fuel and checks oil, water and tire pressure.
  • Performs cosmetic maintenance such as washing exterior and sweeping the interior.
  • Drives bus over city routes and educational/promotional tours.
  • Operates a variety of equipment and systems including AVL/data terminal and public address equipment.

Under regular supervision, Performs a variety of routine and complex transportation work in driving a bus to transport passengers over specified routes to local or distant points according to a time schedule.

Essential Job Functions
  • Complies with local traffic regulations.
  • Performs Pre & Post Walk-Around Inspections
  • Reports changes in routes, delays or accidents.
  • Gets fuel and checks oil, water and tire pressure.
  • Performs cosmetic maintenance such as washing exterior of bus, sweeping and dusting the interior of bus.
  • Drives bus over city routes and does special tours for educational and promotional purposes.
  • Operates a variety of equipment and machinery including gasoline, diesel-powered, and electric; vans or buses, cellular telephone, mobile radio, AVL data terminal with letter keyboard, computer, computerized fuel system, public address equipment, wheelchair equipment (securement devices and fold-over floor), etc.
  • Uses a variety of tools and supplies including a small hand counter, etc.
Additional Job Functions
  • Is required to fill in other positions within the department as required.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Education And Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent and must be able to complete on-the-job training satisfactorily; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses or Certifications

Must have a commercial driver's license Class “B” or better; with passenger endorsement, and no restriction on the use of air brake-equipped vehicles.
