Job summary

WMATA’s Data Science and Research Team offers a data science internship to transform transit data into applications, data pipelines, and policy recommendations. This introductory, preparatory role provides hands-on transit industry experience over a 13-week summer period.

You will gain exposure to Python coding, data analysis, and building applications, with rotation across departments based on your major and supervision by executives or designee.

Qualifications

• Must be attending an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in a discipline aligned with the position.
• Must have completed freshman year and be entering sophomore year.
• Intern must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8.
• Opportunity may include consecutive summers based on performance.

Responsibilities

• Compile, review and analyze data; input and correct data for reports.
• Research data for management, operations, and administrative reports.
• Produce work products such as presentations, reports, and data visualizations.
• Review reports and identify problems; propose solutions as instructed.
• Participate in training sessions and departmental meetings; gain exposure to transit functions.
• Participate in and/or lead departmental meetings and working sessions.
