Job summary

The City of Delano seeks a Transit Driver to operate a bus, van or dial-a-ride vehicle on designated routes, following time schedules and safety rules while assisting passengers and maintaining order.

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent, a valid Class B California Driver License with Passenger Endorsement, and transit certifications or the ability to obtain them within the stated timeframes; 5+ years of driving experience preferred. This is a full-time, city-run position with benefits.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Operate a transit vehicle safely on designated routes and Dial-A-Ride services.
• Drive according to time schedules, ensure passenger safety, and maintain order.
• Assist elderly and disabled passengers during boarding and alighting.
• Count passengers and manage fare transactions; maintain daily logs.
• Complete accident, incident, and injury reports; communicate with dispatch.
• Perform routine vehicle checks and report maintenance needs.
• Interface with the public and provide information and assistance as needed.
