Job summary

The City of Norwalk in California seeks a Bus Operator to operate fixed routes, board and discharge passengers to schedule, and maintain safety with strong customer service. The position includes evenings, weekends, overtime, and holidays, with split shifts and varied hours.

A valid CA Class A/B license and a DOT medical certificate are required; a driving record must be submitted. A $1,000 sign-on bonus after six months is offered; Spanish speaking is desirable.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent and twelve (12) months experience in the safe operation of a bus.
• Must be at least 21 years of age by filing deadline; ability to speak Spanish is desirable.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a Class A or B California driver’s license and a valid medical examiner’s certificate.

Responsibilities

• Safety of all passengers while boarding, riding, and departing from the bus.
• Complete pre-trip safety inspections and check for vehicle condition and leaks.
• Drive assigned routes on schedule, including Dial-A-Ride for elderly/disabled when assigned.
• Collect fares, issue transfers, and provide route information to the public.
• Prepare ridership and incident reports; handle lost property and radio communications.
