Job summary

SST Direct in Elkridge, MD is seeking a Transit Bus Mechanic for a direct hire opportunity. You will diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems on our transit buses to keep the fleet on the road.

This on-site role offers full benefits including PTO, Medical, Dental and 401(k). Pay ranges from $30 to $40 hourly, depending on experience, with ongoing training and opportunities for career advancement.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in transit bus maintenance (required).
• Valid driver's license.
• CDL-A License.
• ASE Certifications (preferred).
• Extensive knowledge of transit bus systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and diagnose electronic components.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on transit buses including engines, transmissions, and electrical systems.
• Inspect and maintain brakes, steering, suspension, and HVAC systems for safety and performance.
• Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, fluid checks, and lubrication.
• Coordinate with Lead Mechanic to schedule repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Communicate clearly about issues and coordinate with vendors for specialized repairs and parts.
• Maintain accurate work orders for all repairs and maintenance.
• Participate in ongoing training to stay current with transit bus technologies.

Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and repair mechanical issues specific to transit buses, including engines, transmissions, and complex electrical systems.
• Inspect and maintain essential bus systems such as brakes, steering, suspension, and HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance and safety.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, fluid checks, and lubrication, tailored to the unique needs of transit buses.
• Work closely with the Lead Mechanic to schedule and prioritize bus repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Communicate clearly about mechanical issues and coordinate with vendors for specialized bus repairs and parts.
• Maintain accurate and detailed work orders for all bus repairs and maintenance.
• Participate in ongoing training and development to stay current with the latest transit bus technologies and maintenance practices.

Qualifications:
