Job description

Position Summary

Transfusion Medicine Physician. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Phoenix Children’s seeks a physician to join a group of 3‑4 clinicians in Transfusion Medicine and Apheresis. The physician will serve as a clinical attending on the Apheresis, Transfusion, and Coagulation Services, supporting a blood bank that performs a full range of immunohematology testing and dispenses 18,000 blood products per year, a therapeutic apheresis and phlebotomy service with 650 cases per year, and a coagulation service. Unique opportunities exist for further specialization in informatics, coagulation, or other clinical pathology domains. The role offers medical directorship, program development, teaching, and research. Faculty appointments with the University of Arizona‑Phoenix College of Medicine, Mayo Clinic Arizona, and Creighton University School of Medicine are encouraged. Rank is commensurate with qualifications.

Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care services, including inpatient, outpatient, subspecialty consults, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and urgent/emergent care.
    • Offer best patient- and family-centered care.
    • Support hospital patient satisfaction goals and division-specific targets.
    • Adhere to patient safety and quality of care standards.
    • Practice contemporary evidence‑based medicine.
  • Divisional responsibilities
    • Establish and pursue annual physician goals and objectives.
    • Support the division’s medical education programs, including supervision of trainees and allied health professionals, teaching rounds, lectures, and conferences.
    • Participate in teaching and supervision of trainees and allied health professionals assigned to the division.
    • Support research endeavors and the division’s research initiatives.
    • Support programmatic growth and satellite efforts of the division.

    • Conduct teaching rounds or conferences outside Phoenix Children’s when they support division programs.
    • Represent Phoenix Children’s in medical and business communities and before the general public.
    • Communicate by telephone, computer, or other devices as needed.
    • Perform after‑hours or night call responsibilities as required.
    • Maintain regular scheduled work hours.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as requested.
Qualifications
  • Board certified or eligible in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine.
  • Residency training in Clinical Pathology (preferred), Pediatrics, or Hematology/Oncology.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Arizona.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with physicians, clinical lab scientists, nurses, caregivers, and leadership teams.
  • Experience or interest in informatics, coagulation, or related clinical pathology domains.
  • Willingness to pursue faculty appointment options and contribute to teaching and research.
