Job summary

UNC Health in Chapel Hill seeks a Medical Laboratory professional for the Transfusion Medicine Service to perform patient testing and support clinical activities. Responsibilities include producing accurate results, troubleshooting, and applying clinical decision-making in a fast-paced setting.

The position is full-time and onsite with a day schedule. Education requirements include a Bachelor’s or related degree with appropriate certification; additional licensure may apply as per program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate degree aligned with clinical laboratory science requirements.
• Certification per degree level as specified (ASCP/ AMT).
• Two years’ experience where required by degree/certification.

Responsibilities

• Produces accurate laboratory test results across CLIA testing levels and solves problems.
• Maintains and investigates equipment, results, specimens, and workflow issues.
• Works independently with solid laboratory knowledge and applies critical decision-making.
• Evaluates testing requests for appropriateness and determines diagnostic needs.
• Participates in teams and special projects; acts as a technical resource.
• Performs quality control and proficiency testing; monitors accuracy and precision.
• Prepares reagents and assists in standard/control material preparation.
• Monitors reagents and assists in maintaining supplies.
• Participates in training and teaching of learners and new staff.
