Job summary

Horner Industrial Services, Inc. in Indianapolis, IN is seeking an experienced Transformer Winder to perform rewinding and testing of dry type and water-cooled transformers, with emphasis on safety and quality.

You will document data, diagnose faults, dismantle equipment, and assist in winding assembly, insulation and final testing, contributing to repair projects within ISO 9001 guidelines. Equal Opportunity Employer.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• 1–3 years' experience in electrical/mechanical repair or related training (EASA or military).
• Ability to work independently or in a team.
• Requires diagnostic troubleshooting, disassembly, measurement and testing at a skilled trades level.
• Good oral and written communication with coworkers and supervisors.

Responsibilities

• Document external data for equipment or winding.
• Diagnose equipment malfunctions using diagnostic equipment.
• Dismantle equipment and collect internal data.
• Identify and document internal winding data.
• Convert winding data per applicable guidelines.
• Remove old winding from core or bobbin.
• Use core test equipment to determine viability and heat dispersion.
• Repair or modify core to meet test criteria.
• Complete full or partial core re-stack if needed.
• Determine insulation requirements for components.
• Size and wind coils or wire for insulation.
• Perform wiring, wedging, and tying of windings.
• Manage final soldering, brazing, or welding of coil leads.
• Tie and verify end clearance of finished winding.
• Document final test results of winding, insulation, and connections.
• Apply proper insulation varnish and coating.
• Dip and bake winding if applicable.
• Clean up surfaces after coating.
• Conduct final testing and documentation.
• Support company goals and objectives.
