Job summary

Ledyard Middle School in Connecticut is seeking a Behavior Specialist to deliver intensive behavioral and social-emotional interventions for students whose needs exceed general classroom support. The role collaborates with teachers, counselors, and school staff to establish positive student contacts that develop appropriate behavior enabling students to succeed.

The position works under the supervision of building administration and follows the Ledyard Public Schools calendar, at 32.5 hours per

Qualifications

  • Two years of college credit or an associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience supporting middle school students with behavioral or social-emotional needs.
  • Training in trauma-informed practices, crisis intervention, data collection and de-escalation preferred.
  • Able to exercise professional judgment and sound decision-making.
  • Experience working in a school setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, high-intensity behavioral support for students in general and special education settings.
  • Implement and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans aligned with IEPs and MTSS.
  • Collect data to support Functional Behavioral Assessments and BIPs.
  • Serve as primary responder for behavioral escalations with approved de-escalation techniques.
  • Participate in PPT/IEP meetings and behavior planning meetings as a behavioral resource.
  • Maintain detailed behavioral documentation required for compliance and reporting.
  • Establish and maintain rapport with students, staff and community members.
