The Board of Miami County Commissioners (Ohio) seeks a dedicated individual to operate equipment and support the Sanitary Engineering Department. As a key team member, you will drive a semi-tractor to transfer solid waste, assist with loading and compacting, inspect fluids, and ensure safety compliance while serving customers.

This full-time, on-site role offers comprehensive benefits, steady hours, and competitive compensation ($18–$19/hr).

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Valid Ohio driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Operate semi-tractor to transfer solid waste for disposal or recycling.
Assist Transfer Station Operator 2 in loading and compacting solid waste for disposal or recycling.
Inspect equipment for proper fluid levels and maintenance needs.
Process materials for transfer or recycling.
Assist customers and enforce safety rules and regulations.
Maintain grounds and facility (mow, trim, snow removal, trash removal, etc.).
Perform custodial duties as directed.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under immediate direction, operates equipment, performs routine inspections and maintenance, ensures compliance with safety regulations, and performs a variety of other tasks that support the daily operations of the Miami County Sanitary Engineering department.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or equivalent, valid Ohio driver’s license.

DUTIES

Operates semi-tractor to transfer solid waste for disposal or recycling, assists Transfer Station Operator 2 in loading and compacting solid waste for disposal or recycling, inspects equipment for proper fluid levels and other maintenance needs, processes materials for transfer or recycling, assists customers and enforces safety rules and regulations, assists with maintenance of grounds and facility (mows grass, removes weeds, trims shrubs and trees, plows and shovels snow, removes trash, paints facilities, etc.), performs custodial duties as directed. Ability to interpret and carry out a variety of instructions in various formats. Deal with problems involving a variety of variables in unfamiliar context and apply principles to solve practical, everyday problems. Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Understand manuals and verbal instructions, technical in nature. Comprehend and add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages. Be able to work as part of a team.

Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.

Demonstrates regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS

The employee is exposed to, must negotiate, use, or work with or in the vicinity of portable fire extinguishers, potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons, moving trucks and vehicles, floor openings, wall openings and holes, open-sided floors, platforms and runways, stairs, fixed industrial stairs, portable wood and metal ladders, fixed ladders, noisy operations or activities, flammable and combustible liquids, general requirements for use, care, and limitations of personal protective equipment, medical and first aid, handling material and supplies (mechanical handling equipment, the manner in which things are stored, and housekeeping), hand and portable power tools including physical guards, switches, lawn mower, and power washer, air contaminants (trucks fumes, dust, etc.), chemicals (household hazardous waste, etc.), hot, cold, wet, humid or windy weather conditions, hazardous driving conditions, moving trucks and vehicles, bees and other insects.

HOURS

Monday – Friday 10:00AM - 6:30PM andevery other Saturday 7:00AM - 3:00PM

COMPENSATION

$18.00 - $19.00 per hour/DOQ
