Job summary

Evident Inspection Technologies, a division of Wabtec, seeks a Co-op in Transducer Manufacturing Engineering in onsite Waltham, MA for Jan–Jun 2027. You will join a multidisciplinary team to design, test, and document processes, fixtures, and tooling while contributing to lean improvements and data-driven manufacturing practices.

  • Currently pursuing BS or MS in Physics, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or other Engineering discipline.
  • Strong background in physics is a plus.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Programming experience in LabView, VB.net or C# preferred.
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, multi-meters, pulser/receivers is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead primary project assigned for the co-op term from start to completion.
  • Assist Sr. Acoustics Engineer in evaluation, development and implementation of new test systems and protocols.
  • Assist production and production engineering team with other projects and tasks as needed.
  • Collect manufacturing data using Excel, Power BI and internal software tools.
  • Conduct process audits and time studies, propose Lean manufacturing improvements.
  • Evaluate ergonomics and safety within Manufacturing operations.
  • Study and propose improvements to test process flow and spatial utilization.
  • Read and understand basic engineering drawings and schematics.

Job description

This position is part of Evident Inspection Technologies division, which delivers solutions to complex challenges by inspecting mission-critical assets and infrastructure. The division leverages nondestructive testing, remote visual inspection, and analytical instruments to support maintenance, manufacturing, and environmental applications. This Co‑op position is from January to June 2027 and is based onsite in Waltham, MA.

The Transducer Manufacturing Engineering Co‑op will assist the Transducer Production Engineering department with design, testing, and documentation. The Co‑op will be a member of a multi‑disciplinary team comprised of manufacturing, electromechanical, and acoustic engineers. Projects will include fixture development, process optimization and engineering changes.

As a co‑op working with our Transducer PENG team, you will be empowered and encouraged to be hands‑on. You will contribute to our mission by working with the Production Engineering, Quality and Product Management teams. A typical day for you will include:

  • Lead primary project assigned for the co‑op term from start to completion
  • Assist Sr. Acoustics Engineer in evaluation, development and implementation of new test systems and protocols
  • Assist production and production engineering team with other projects and tasks as needed
  • Collecting and analyzing manufacturing data using Excel, Power BI and internal software tools.
  • Conducting process audits and time studies, proposing improvements based on Lean Manufacturing principles.*
  • Evaluating ergonomics and safety within the Manufacturing operations.
  • Conduct studies and propose improvements to the test process flow and spatial utilization based on Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Read and understand basic engineering drawings, schematics, block diagrams, and electrical component specifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently pursuing BS or MS degree in Physics, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or other Engineering discipline

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong background in physics is a plus
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong background in physics is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Programming experience in LabView, VB.net or C# preferred
  • Experience with simple circuits and tuning components (capacitors, inductors) is a plus
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, multi-meters, pulser/receivers is a plus
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different function
  • Strong time management skills that enable on-time project delivery
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to take the initiative and drive for results

Pay rate:$25.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The pay rate for this role is currently $25 per hour. The actual pay rate offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
