Job summary

Prisma Health in Greenville, SC, is seeking a Medical Assistant with CMA credentials to support Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation services. You will assist physicians, document patient data, and manage clerical duties in a busy clinical setting.

Responsibilities include preparing treatment areas, recording medical histories, and coordinating scheduling and billing tasks. A valid CMA certification and relevant MA training are required.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited medical assisting education program.
• SAFETY and HIPAA training as applicable to medical offices.
• CMA certification or eligibility per CMA standards.
• Knowledge of medical records and health information privacy.
• Experience with front desk and patient scheduling is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Independently perform TMS treatment sessions and assist physicians.
• Support patient care, documentation, and clerical duties under supervision.
• Record vital signs, chief complaints, med history, and PHQ9 screening data.
• Prepare treatment rooms and equipment for examinations and procedures.
• Transmit physician orders to pharmacies following state law.
• Coordinate scheduling, pre-authorization, and billing tasks.
• Serve as liaison between patients and providers and payors.
• Participate in team meetings and process improvement activities.

Job description

• Independently perform Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation treatment sessions


• Assist physicians with Motor Threshold sessions


• Perform assigned patient care and related administrative duties under direct physician supervision


• Perform clinical, technical, administrative, and clerical duties within the scope of training and certification, including point-of-care testing


• Report critical lab values to the physician


• Perform 25 to 35 TMS sessions per patient independently


• Prepare treatment rooms, supplies, equipment, and patients for examination and treatment


• Obtain and record chief complaints, medications, vital signs, pain screening, PHQ9 screening, allergies, and medical and social histories


• Document treatments and patient education in medical records


• Participate in process improvement activities and team meetings


• Teach patients about diagnosis, self-care, health promotion, disease prevention, and community healthcare resources as directed


• Act as liaison between patients and providers


• Handle clinically related telephone calls after communicating with physicians


• Transmit physician medication orders to pharmacies as governed by state law


• Complete insurance, registration, scheduling, billing, authorization, and precertification tasks


• Communicate with patients, referral sources, and payors between visits


• Schedule physician-ordered tests and treatments


• Obtain pre-payment and establish payment plans


• Perform general office and clerical duties as assigned

Requirements

• Completion of a medical assisting education program accredited by the CAAHEP, ABHES, or any accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education


• Completion of a Career and Technical Education Health Sciences Program approved by the South Carolina Department of Education


• Completion of a medical assisting program provided by a branch of the United States Military


• Completion of a medical assisting United States Department of Labor-approved Registered Apprenticeship program


• Completion of a training program delivered by a health care employer that aligns with a nationally accredited certification exam


• Completion of the Prisma Health Certification Institute (PHCI) Fast Track Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) program


• No experience required; Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation procedure experience preferred


• In lieu of CMA education and certification, LPN or RN with applicable licensure and 6 months TMS experience will be considered


• Required job-related certification: CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), CCMA (NHA), NCMA (NCCT), RMA (ARMA), NRCMA (NAHP), or RMA (AAMP)
