Description

Transformer/Equipment Technician Operator

Under the supervision of a Transformer/Equipment Technician Foreman and General Foremen, this position will be responsible for the completion of in-field jobs on an assigned or emergency basis.

In-field jobs include maintenance, installation, and removal of high voltage transformers and related equipment, troubleshooting electrical power equipment, and control circuits. The role also involves switching, maintenance, and construction of substation equipment, implementing protective measures for maintenance duties, and routine substation inspections. The technician will ensure a safe work environment and lead apprentices.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental protocols.
  • Ability to obtain security access and work unescorted on customer properties and substations.
  • Residency within 30 miles of the job location.
  • Effective verbal communication.
  • Availability for call-outs and overtime.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Work safely within all safety rules.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Willing to work extended hours and travel as needed.
  • Ability to work in energized substations up to 345,000 volts.
  • Ability to work with hands above head for extended periods.
  • Read and understand technical drawings and manuals.
  • Meet residency requirements.
  • Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
Education & Experience
  • Recognized certificate or equivalent experience. College transcripts required if applicable.
  • Experience as a substation operator or journeyperson electrician preferred (not for apprentices).
Pre-Screen
  • Pre-employment drug screen, background, and MVR checks may be required.
License & Certifications
  • Valid CDL Class A required within 6 months of employment.
Physical Requirements
  • Climbing poles, stairs, and working at heights.
  • Prolonged standing, walking, lifting, and manual dexterity.
Safety

Must be able to work safely around hazardous equipment, in various weather conditions, and at heights. Capable of handling physical and environmental challenges associated with electrical work.
