Position Summary
The Training & Support Coordinator position plays a critical role in strengthening teachers’ instructional practices and student achievement in Mathematics. Individuals that serve within the role will design and develop high-quality resources that support teachers in delivering instruction aligned with state standards and the district’s Vision for Excellent Instruction. This role includes planning and facilitating professional development, collaborating with educators to strengthen instructional practices, and supporting school-based staff in the effective implementation of the district’s instructional vision. In addition to resource creation, the Training & Support Coordinator will draft strategy memos and communications related to curriculum and instructional initiatives. Coaching and collaboration are central to this role, ensuring all support provided is strategic, responsive, and grounded in best practice.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree preferred. Bachelor’s degree required.
- A valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an “EX” endorsement in 6-12 or 9-12 Mathematics is required.
- A minimum of 5 years teaching experience in Mathematics.
- Experience applying principles of adult learning to the design and delivery of professional development.
- Experience providing curriculum implementation support to teachers in Mathematics.
- Strong working knowledge of the Michigan Mathematics Standards and shifts in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics
Essential Functions
Under the direction of the Senior Director of Mathematics, the Training & Support Coordinator will:
- Mentor and support teachers in the effective implementation of district-approved curriculum, including course content, pacing, and guidance documents aligned with state standards and the Vision for Excellent Instruction, with the goal of improving student achievement.
- Draft communications related to ongoing professional development and curriculum initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with district policies and protocols related to professional development and curriculum initiatives.
- Monitor and review existing and prospective professional development programs to ensure alignment with the district’s mission and vision.
- Provide instructional coaching and school-based support aligned with the Vision for Excellent Instruction by observing instruction, offering actionable feedback, co-planning and modeling lessons, and leading school-based PLCs to strengthen teaching practices and improve student outcomes.
- Design and deliver professional development in HS Mathematics aligned with the Vision of Excellent Adult Facilitation
- Design and deliver professional development to support teachers in analyzing and responding to student data from formative and summative standards-aligned assessments.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of professional development and training sessions for teachers.
- Coordinate with professional development partners to enhance and support workshops provided by district vendors and partners.
- Collaborate effectively with district and school leaders by demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Manage projects within the Office of Mathematics, demonstrating the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively, while exhibiting strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective time management.
- Actively contributes to fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment within the Office of Mathematics and Division of Strategy and Academics.
- Effectively and efficiently use digital tools including Microsoft Office Suite programs, SharePoint, and Frontline.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by supervisor and allowable according to Title II, A guidelines.
