Starting Compensation: $26.70/Hourly

JOB SUMMARY

This part‑time position involves the administration of domestic violence intervention groups. The role was created to facilitate court‑ordered group psycho‑educational sessions for individuals convicted of domestic violence offenses who are under probation or parole supervision with the Lancaster County Adult Probation and Parole Services. The group facilitator uses group dynamics to stop abusive and/or battering behavior and holds offenders accountable to participate and fulfill group assignments.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Facilitate treatment/intervention groups for domestic violence offenders and batterers.
  • Provide the probation office with periodic assessments of individual client and group progress.
  • Deliver domestic violence curriculum instruction.
  • Discuss with group members issues of domestic violence that correlate with their specific actions.
  • Use modeling and coaching to teach nonviolent behavior and proper anger management.
  • Respond to crisis and provide sound interventions during group sessions.
  • Adhere to the pre‑established domestic violence curriculum and instructions from Adult Probation and Parole Services.
  • Manage a 20‑week group series, with each session totaling 2.5 hours (pre‑ and post‑group preparation plus 2hours of group time).
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports directly to a Supervisor in Adult Probation and Parole Services.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, criminal justice, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in probation/parole supervision, social work, or an acceptable combination of related experience.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence and counseling methods.
  • Understanding of the cycle of abuse and intervention strategies.
  • Knowledge of individual and group behavior characteristics, particularly among offenders or antisocial individuals.
  • Ability to work with difficult people with tolerance and understanding.
  • Basic knowledge of probation/parole operations and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills for group instruction, individual and written.
  • Willingness to work with domestic violence offenders, Lancaster County Probation and Parole Services, and the Domestic Violence Unit officers.
  • Organizational and time‑management skills, including flexibility for multiple tasks.
  • Computer skills, including word‑processing and file maintenance.
  • Understanding of confidentiality rules in a group setting.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with the PA Criminal History Record Information Act.
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS / CLEARANCES
  • Pass a criminal background check.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to escort offenders from waiting area to group room.
  • Ability to operate a computer or laptop.
  • Ability to lift and move files weighing up to 10pounds.
