Job summary

HII Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking a training program designer to develop and deliver programs for personnel at all levels. You will create tests and visual aids, run training classes, and establish criteria to evaluate effectiveness.

The role requires staying current with learning theory, developing in-house programs, and potentially overseeing contractors or vendors for training development and e-learning initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with 3 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree with 1 year of relevant professional experience.
  • Equivalents include: NNS Apprentice School graduate, NNPS graduate, Associate’s Degree with 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years non-exempt experience, Military Paygrade E-5 or above, High School/GED with 4 years manufacturing or related exempt experience, or High School/GED with 8 years manufacturing or related non-exempt experience.
  • Experience in training program development and evaluation is desirable.

Salary Range: $63,000.00 to $80,000.00

The anticipated salary range represents the estimated base pay for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors, and may vary from the posted range

The Role

Designs and delivers programs to train all levels of personnel. Develops tests and visual aids, conducts training classes, and develops criteria for evaluating effectiveness of training activities. Keeps abreast of training and development research: learning theory, motivation theory, and new materials, methods, and techniques. Develops in-house programs and practices to identify developmental needs, including preparing personnel for more responsible positions and increasing effectiveness in present assignments. May evaluate and/or oversee contractors or vendors to develop and/or administer training programs. May be responsible for development of e-learning programs.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 1 years of relevant professional experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
  • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience

Nice to Have

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

  • Working knowledge/experience creating and modifying NNS SAP Bills of Materials (EBOM and PBOM)
  • Working knowledge in Visual Work Document creation (favorable)
  • Working knowledge/use of Siemen's NX/Teamcenter (favorable)
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications – Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting Specifications and Standards (favorable)
  • Working knowledge in Drawing Comprehension (favorable)
