Job summary

Westamerica is seeking an experienced trainer to design, deliver, and supervise external training for employees across banking products and services. Under general managerial guidance, you will implement training programs that align with policy and risk controls.

You will prepare materials, assess effectiveness, and coordinate with subject matter experts, ensuring content remains compliant and up-to-date while supporting a high standard of customer service.

Qualifications

  • Prior work experience in a financial institution with knowledge of policies and products.
  • Previous teaching or presentation experience is helpful.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, interpersonal, organizational and planning skills.

JOB SUMMARY

Under general managerial guidance: Implements, administers, instructs and facilitates external training for employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Conducts established training program.
  • Prepares and maintains training materials and course outlines.
  • Evaluates and edits existing materials.
  • Identifies subject matter experts and uses outside materials for various classes.
  • Ensures compliance related content is sufficient.
  • Completes assigned compliance-related training.

  • Performs other job‑related duties as required.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS NEEDED TO PERFORM JOB FUNCTIONS

Prior work experience in a financial institution where an individual has gained a solid working knowledge of application of operational policies as applied to business and consumer products and services. Previous teaching / presentation experience is helpful. Incumbent must also possess working knowledge of various types of audio‑visual equipment and PC. Excellent presentation, communication, interpersonal, organizational and planning skills are required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Standing a great deal. Moving furniture and/or equipment in classroom and possibly when coordinating meetings. Lifting and moving boxes of materials. Conducted training in various locations as required.

MENTAL DEMANDS

Must effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) to adult audiences with varied backgrounds and skill levels. Prioritize multiple tasks and meet various demands within tight time constraints while maintaining a positive service‑oriented attitude. Applies knowledge of banking regulations to the department’s operations and risk mitigating internal controls. Produce a consistent program of instruction.

EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM FUNCTIONS

Computer terminal and keyboard, photocopy machine, telephone, fax machine and calculator.

DECISION MAKING
  • Determine best approach to utilize to handle a disruptive classroom situation.
  • Identify what information shared by employee or observed during instruction should be discussed with the employee’s supervisor.
  • Analyze student questions to determine if they have sufficient knowledge of subject to answer the query. If not, follow through with "subject matter expert" and provide employee with the answer.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
  • Training a responsive and prepared operations staff that ensures the Bank’s products and customer service goals are met.
