Job description

About Forterra

At Forterra, we are unleashing autonomy at scale to transform the battlefield. Our mission is to build the foundational platforms that enable an intelligent ecosystem to coordinate, adapt, and execute with speed and precision even in the uncertainty and disruption of modern conflict. In an era marked by rapid technological change and evolving threats, we design for flexibility, survivability, and operational dominance.

Forterra delivers weapons, sensors, and battlefield effects through integrated autonomous networks reaching operational areas faster, safer, and without placing human lives at risk. Our systems operate with distributed control, dynamic routing, and real‑time responsiveness, enabling sustained advantage across complex mission environments.

About the role

Forterra is seeking a Training Manager to lead our company‑wide training programs for autonomous ground vehicle operations. This role sits within Customer Success but owns training strategy and execution across the entire organization. You’ll be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing comprehensive training programs that ensure our operators, maintainers, and safety personnel are properly equipped to work with cutting‑edge autonomous systems.

As our Training Manager, you’ll centralize and standardize training processes that are currently fragmented across departments. You’ll build scalable programs that serve 100‑150 internal personnel plus external customer training requirements. This role directly supports mission‑critical operations and customer success.

What you’ll do
Training Program Development & Delivery:
  • Own Forterra’s customer and internal training strategy, spanning operator training, Train‑the‑Trainer programs, and refresher and sustainment training.
  • Lead the design and evolution of training curricula that combine classroom instruction, hands‑on exercises, and operational scenarios.
  • Oversee and assist with developing training materials including instructor guides, slide decks, hands‑on lab exercises, and assessments and certification criteria.
  • Coordinate and support training delivery in partnership with trainers, Field Service Reps, and subject matter experts.
  • Ensure training content remains current with product capabilities and operational best practices.
Cross‑Functional & Program Support:
  • Serve as the Customer Success lead for training during program kickoffs, sustainment planning, site activation, and deployment readiness.
  • Support program planning, proposals, and timelines as they relate to training scope.
  • Actively incorporate feedback from customers and field teams into continuous improvement of training programs.
Process, Quality & Scaling:
  • Build repeatable processes for training intake, prioritization, and execution.
  • Define and track metrics related to training readiness, program completion, and customer enablement.
  • Drive standardization and content reuse to improve efficiency while maintaining flexibility for program‑specific needs.
  • Help scale Customer Success operations by reducing deployment and sustainment friction through strong enablement materials.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in technical training, instructional design, or customer enablement roles
  • Demonstrated experience both leading teams and personally delivering technical training
  • Background in formal, corporate, or adult education — or equivalent experience building and running structured training programs
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, evaluate, and develop strong training talent
  • Ability to learn and internalize complex technical systems and translate that knowledge into effective instructional experiences
  • Proven ability to work cross‑functionally with Engineering, Program, and Field teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in autonomy, robotics, defense, or other complex technical domains
  • Familiarity with MIL‑STD or regulated documentation environments
  • Experience designing and delivering hands‑on technical training
  • Familiarity with technical documentation standards and practices
