Job summary

Qualifications

  • Deliver instructor-led safety and environmental training and coordinate external programs.
  • Monitor and assess training effectiveness through evaluations and feedback.

Description

The Environmental & Safety Training Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, delivering, and tracking comprehensive environmental & safety training programs that support a safe and compliant mining operation. This position ensures compliance with OSHA, MSHA, company policies, permit requirements, regulatory and site‑specific environmental and safety requirements while fostering a proactive culture throughout the organization. This role will work closely with operations, safety leadership, contractors, and employees to ensure all personnel maintain required certifications, complete mandated training, and are equipped to perform work safely. This position requires regular onsite presence at the Stibnite Gold Project near Yellow Pine, Idaho.

Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Safety & Environmental Training Administration
  • Develop, coordinate, schedule, and track all required safety & environmental training programs for employees, contractors, visitors, and temporary personnel.
  • Administer new hire orientation, site‑specific induction training, and annual refresher programs.
  • Ensure all personnel complete mandatory OSHA, MSHA, environmental, and company‑required training prior to accessing work areas.
  • Create and maintain training matrices to ensure workforce compliance with regulatory and operational requirements.
  • Deliver instructor‑led safety and environmental training and facilitate external training programs as needed.
  • Coordinate specialized training programs, including confined space, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, fall protection, mobile equipment, emergency response, and task‑specific training.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness through observations, assessments, testing, and employee feedback.
MSHA and OSHA Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable MSHA, OSHA, state, federal, and company health and safety training requirements.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of Part 46 and/or Part 48 miner training requirements, as applicable.
  • Manage and maintain training records required for regulatory audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
  • Assist with preparation for MSHA inspections and audits.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and recommend updates to site training programs and procedures.
  • Support management in interpreting and communicating regulatory requirements to employees and contractors.
Contractor Management
  • Coordinate contractor onboarding and verification of required certifications, qualifications, and training records.
  • Conduct contractor safety and environmental orientations and ensure compliance with site‑specific requirements.
  • Review contractor training documentation and maintain records to verify compliance prior to site access.
  • Partner with contractor management teams to ensure alignment with company safety expectations and standards.
Incident Management and Corrective Actions
  • Participate in incident, injury, near‑miss, and property damage investigations.
  • Identify training‑related root causes and assist in the development of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop lessons learned communications and incorporate findings into future training programs.
  • Track corrective actions associated with incidents and regulatory findings.
Emergency Preparedness and Response
  • Support the development and maintenance of site emergency response training programs.
  • Coordinate emergency drills, evacuations, spill cleanups and tabletop exercises.
  • Assist with training for emergency response teams and mine rescue personnel, where applicable.
  • Ensure employees understand emergency and spill response procedures, reporting requirements, and response protocols.
Safety and Environmental Culture and Employee Engagement
  • Promote a positive, proactive safety and environmental culture throughout the organization.
  • Facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns.
  • Assist in developing safety recognition and engagement programs.
  • Encourage employee participation in hazard identification, reporting, and risk reduction initiatives.
  • Serve as a resource to employees and supervisors regarding safety and environmental training requirements and best practices.
Training Systems and Record Management
  • Maintain electronic and hard‑copy training records in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage Learning Management Systems (LMS), training databases, and compliance tracking systems.
  • Generate reports and dashboards related to training completion, certification status, and compliance metrics.
  • Monitor and communicate upcoming certification expirations and retraining requirements.
  • Ensure accurate record retention and document control practices.
Continuous Improvement
  • Assess training needs and develop annual training plans that align with operational risks and business objectives.
  • Evaluate training trends, compliance indicators, audit findings to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with Safety, Human Resources, Operations, and Environmental teams to enhance workforce competency.
  • Benchmark training programs against industry best practices and emerging mining safety standards.
  • Support company initiatives related to operational excellence, workforce development, and safety leadership.
Qualifications:
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Industrial Safety, Education, or a equivalent experience required.
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of safety training coordination, safety administration, or safety leadership experience.
  • Experience supporting mining, construction, heavy industrial, natural resources, or related industries preferred.
  • Experience maintaining regulatory training records and compliance documentation.
  • Experience delivering training to field personnel and contractors.
Certifications
Required:
  • OSHA 30‑Hour Construction or General Industry Certification.
  • MSHA Instructor Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Current valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
Preferred:
  • MSHA Part 46 and Part 48 training experience.
  • MSHA Instructor certification.
  • OSHA Authorized Trainer designation.
  • CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician).
  • STSC (Safety Trained Supervisor Construction).
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or other professional safety credential.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and MSHA regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of mining operations, hazards, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate training for diverse employee groups.
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety excellence.
