Location: Remote with periodic on-site support in Monrovia, CA

  • Job Type: Full-time (40 hours per week) with benefits.

Position Overview

The Trainer Support Specialist is responsible for designing, delivering, and evaluating training programs for SGVCOG staff. This role ensures that employees are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively utilize software, hardware, and cybersecurity practices aligned with organizational goals.

Background

The San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG) supports regional governance through collaborative planning and service delivery. As technology evolves, the need for effective training and user enablement becomes critical. The Trainer Support Specialist will lead efforts to improve technical proficiency, drive user adoption of new tools, and promote cybersecurity awareness among SGVCOG staff.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain an annual training calendar in collaboration with SGVCOG leadership.
- Design and deliver training sessions on topics including cybersecurity, software applications, and system usage.
- Conduct needs assessments to identify knowledge gaps and recommend targeted training solutions.
- Prepare training materials, user guides, and evaluation tools.
- Facilitate both in-person and virtual training sessions.
- Collect and analyze participant feedback to measure training effectiveness and improve future sessions.
- Maintain records of attendance, feedback, and training outcomes.
- Monitor emerging technology trends and propose relevant training topics.
- Provide one-on-one coaching as needed to reinforce skills.
- Collaborate with IT and HR teams to support employee onboarding and compliance training initiatives.

Qualifications

- Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design.
- Proficiency in delivering training across various formats (classroom, webinar, self-paced).
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts in user-friendly language.
- Experience with tools such as Microsoft 365, Zoom, SharePoint, and Learning Management Systems.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Information Technology, Communications, or a related field is required. Certification in training or instructional design (e.g., CompTIA CTT+, ATD, or equivalent) is desirable.

Experience

3–5 years of experience delivering professional development or technical training programs in a corporate or public sector environment.
