Our Network Services team is responsible for maintaining 4,000 kilometres of rail corridor, bridges, tunnels, viaducts, overhead wires, signals, and level crossings. KiwiRail's network is vast and complex, representing the challenging geographic features within the natural New Zealand landscape - we need experts with specialised skills to keep us in front.

We are looking for a Signals Technician to join the team. You will be responsible for ensuring the effective, reliable, and efficient operation of all signalling assets. This includes maintenance, installation, restoration, and repair under the supervision of the Leading Hand Signals Technician. With multiple signalled crossings on our network, this role is challenging, fast-paced, and in an environment where using initiative and problem-solving is celebrated.

This is a great development opportunity where you will receive excellent on-the-job training alongside our current Signals teams who are keen to pass on their skills and knowledge.

  • Signals experience
  • New Zealand Electrical Registration as an electrician
  • Industrial electrical background/Mechanical aptitude is preferable
  • Keen to undertake further training and develop a career with KiwiRail
  • Proven team player
  • The ability to attend to emergency failures after hours and work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Class 1 driving license with a requirement to gain Class 2 status
  • 4 weeks annual leave
