Job Overview

R.J. Corman Railroad Switching is seeking safety-minded individuals to join our team. The Train Crew is an entry-level position responsible for assisting in efficient railroad operations, with the potential to progress to more advanced roles such as Conductor over time.

Responsibilities
  1. Assist in all phases of the safe daily operation of trains.
  2. Operate equipment according to company policies, procedures, and practices.
  3. Operate track switches, couple cars, and work on trains in yard operations.
  4. Move and align various parts of rail equipment to assemble trains.
  5. Perform multiple tasks safely, including pulling, controlling, and maneuvering equipment.
  6. Coordinate with customers to ensure accurate movement and placement of cars.
  7. Take on increasing responsibilities, including duties of a Conductor.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Safety-minded with basic reading and math skills.
  • Ability to develop teamwork and communicate effectively over radio.
Physical Requirements
  • Perform strenuous physical work.
  • Constant standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, and balancing.
  • Frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 lbs.
  • Push and pull with up to 150 lbs of force.
  • Work outdoors around moving locomotives, railcars, and equipment, often in weather conditions.
  • Pass background checks, drug tests, and physical capacity tests.
