Job summary

Transport Refrigeration, Inc. is seeking an Experienced Trailer Technician for its new location in Rockford, IL. This role involves repairing and maintaining semi-trailers and refrigerated trailers in a hands-on service environment.

Job Location: ROCKFORD OFFICE - ROCKFORD, IL 61109, Salary Range: $24.50 - $35.00 Hourly, Job Shift: 1st Shift.

Experienced Trailer Technician / Trailer Mechanic

If you have experience repairing semi-trailers, refrigerated trailers, commercial trailers, or heavy-duty equipment, this is an opportunity to put your skills to work in a hands-on service environment.

You'll perform trailer repair, preventative maintenance, DOT/FHWA inspections, brakes, ABS, electrical, welding, fabrication, body and structural repairs, and more.

• $24.50–$35.00/hour, based on experience

What You'll Do

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on semi-trailers and refrigerated trailers
• Perform DOT/FHWA inspections and related repairs
• Diagnose and repair trailer brakes and ABS systems
• Perform tire repairs and replacements
• Repair trailer bodies, structures, floors, and rear doors
• Perform steel and aluminum welding
• Fabricate and modify trailers and customer vehicles
• Perform trailer electrical repairs and troubleshooting
• Perform insulation and foaming of refrigerated trailers and vans
• Perform road service when needed
• Service and repair company vehicles and equipment
• Operate forklifts, hoists, and other shop equipment
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop

What We're Looking For

• Previous trailer repair experience required
• Experience as a Trailer Technician, Trailer Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, or Heavy-Duty Technician
• Experience repairing semi-trailers, refrigerated trailers, or commercial trailers
• Strong welding and fabrication skills
• Experience with trailer brakes, ABS, electrical systems, tires, and structural repairs
• Ability to perform or learn DOT/FHWA inspections
• High school diploma, technical school, or equivalent experience
• Valid, unrestricted driver's license
• Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification
• ASE certification or willingness to obtain and maintain certifications
• Ability to travel occasionally for training
• Obtain required tools and toolbox
• Strong safety awareness and attention to detail
• Dependable, professional, and team-oriented

Physical Requirements

• Lift up to 50 lbs. several times per day and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
• Frequently stand, walk, bend, twist, squat, climb, push, and pull
• Work around and underneath trailers using ladders, scaffolding, and creepers
• Operate company and customer vehicles, forklifts, hoists, and shop equipment
• Perform repetitive hand movements and use hand tools throughout the workday
