Job summary

FleetPride is seeking a Mobile Technician II to perform preventative maintenance, diagnose vehicle systems, and carry out repairs with limited supervision. The role includes shop work between service calls and potential after-hours on-call rotation.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, diesel technology training, and at least three years of experience repairing Class 7 & 8 trucks. Valid driver’s license and own hand tools are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; Diesel Technology certificate/degree is a plus, but not required.
  • 3+ years of experience repairing Class 7 & 8 trucks and trailers.
  • Welding Air Brake Certified.

Responsibilities

  • Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunction.
  • Provide customers with preventative maintenance solutions as appropriate.
  • Maintain 80% productivity and prevent comebacks.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, lubrications and filter replacements.
  • Repair, reline, replace, and adjust brakes (air, hydraulic, electric).
  • Test drive vehicles and test components using proper equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair suspension systems including leaf/coil systems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, exhaust, steering, A/C, PTOs and exhaust systems.
  • Adjust, remove and replace clutches and driveline components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair fuel tanks, fifth wheels, hitches and frames.
  • Perform tandem alignment and king pin/bushing repairs.
  • Weld aluminum and steel as needed.
  • Fabricate driveshafts using machinery.
  • Finish surfaces with filing, grinding, sanding.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Mobile Technician II is expected to have mastered all applications of Preventative Maintenance and to perform basic and advanced adjustments, repairs and component replacements with limited supervision. Additionally, the Technician II will perform basic diagnostic operations in order to successfully diagnose vehicle system failures and suggest accurate system repairs. This technician will also work in the shop between service calls. They may also be asked to participate in the after-hour on-call rotation for the location, if needed.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunction(s).
  • Provide customers with preventative maintenance solution, whenever appropriate.
  • Maintain 80% productivity Prevent comebacks
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications and filter replacements.
  • Repair, reline, replace, and adjust brakes (air, hydraulic, electric and brake accessories).
  • Test drive vehicles and test components using proper equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair suspension systems including leaf and coil spring systems, and Hendrickson walking beam type suspension systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, exhaust systems, steering systems, air conditioning, PTO”S and custom exhaust systems.
  • Adjust, remove and replace clutches and drivelines.
  • Troubleshoot and repair fuel tanks, fifth wheels, trailer hitches, pintle hooks, auxiliary axles and frames.
  • Perform tandem alignment, front axle king pin and bushing repairs.
  • Perform basic aluminum and steel wire welding.
  • Utilize machinery in order to repair or fabricate any driveshaft.
  • File, grind, sand and smooth filled or repaired surfaces, using power tools and hand tools.
  • Remove upholstery, accessories, electrical window and seat operating equipment and trim to gain access to vehicle bodies and fenders.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace and service truck.
  • Practice safe driving.
EDUCATION & TRAINING

High school diploma or GED Diesel Technology certificate/degree is a plus, but not required.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
  • 3 + years of experience with repairing class 7 & 8 trucks and trailers
  • Welding Air Brake Certified
SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record required.
  • Must provide hand tools, air tools, and toolbox.
  • Maintain perfect safety record.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Exposure to Inside/Outside Conditions, Extreme Temperatures (average of 100 Degrees F), Humid Conditions, Chemical Hazards, Vibration, Equipment Noise, Work in enclosed and confined spaces.
