Job summary

Pace Transportation is seeking a Trailer Technician to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial trailers, performing preventive maintenance, brake and suspension work, welding, electrical troubleshooting, and other trailer-related tasks in accordance with company and safety standards.

The role emphasizes accurate, efficient repairs, proper documentation, and clear communication with leadership and team members while staying current with industry trends and repair techniques.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Vocational training in automotive or diesel technology is a plus.
  • Knowledge of trailer systems and repair procedures.
  • Ability to safely perform brake, suspension, hub, wheel end, and structural repairs.
  • Ability to read and follow repair procedures and work instructions.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to identify safety concerns and correct deficiencies.
  • Basic mechanical and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Welding and fabrication experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision based on technician tier level.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced service environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and trailer repairs.
  • Diagnose mechanical, structural, electrical, suspension, and brake system issues.
  • Repair and replace trailer components including: Brakes, Wheel seals/hubs, Bearings, Suspension components, Air systems, Lighting/electrical systems, Landing gear, Doors and hardware, Tires/wheels, Trailer body components.
  • Perform welding and fabrication repairs as needed.
  • Conduct brake adjustments and ensure proper torque specifications are followed.
  • Inspect completed work to verify repairs are accurate and meet quality standards.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, torches, welders, jacks, lifts, and diagnostic equipment safely.
  • Complete repair orders, inspection forms, and other required documentation accurately.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
  • Communicate repair status, additional findings, and parts needs to leadership.
  • Work collaboratively with other technicians, foremen, and service personnel.
  • Meet productivity, efficiency, and quality expectations established by the Company.
  • Maintain accurate records of services performed, parts used, and repairs completed.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and repair techniques.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Overview

The Trailer Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining commercial trailers and trailer components in accordance with company, manufacturer, and safety standards. This position performs preventative maintenance, mechanical repairs, brake and suspension work, welding/fabrication, electrical troubleshooting, and other trailer-related repairs while ensuring quality workmanship and safe operating conditions.

Technicians are expected to complete repairs accurately, efficiently, and safely while maintaining proper documentation and communication with leadership and team members.

Competencie and Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in automotive or diesel technology is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., ASE, OEM certifications) are preferred but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of trailer systems and repair procedures
  • Ability to safely perform brake, suspension, hub, wheel end, and structural repairs
  • Ability to read and follow repair procedures and work instructions
