Job summary

XPO Logistics, Inc. is hiring a Technician Specialist in Columbus, OH to support trailer inspections, maintenance, and repairs. You’ll work with experienced technicians to gain FMCSA qualification and advance toward a Trailer Technician role, with shifts including days, evenings, and weekends.

The role requires a valid license, basic mechanical and computer skills, and a drive to grow within the maintenance field. Company benefits apply from day one.

Qualifications

  • A valid driver’s license and basic mechanical skills.
  • Basic computer skills for documenting maintenance, service and repair activities.
  • Ability to perform safety inspections and prepare safety documentation.
  • Willingness to become a Technician Level 1.
  • One year verifiable experience in heavy-duty maintenance for promotion eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with trailer inspections and brake replacement to gain experience for FMCSA requirements.
  • Complete component replacements.
  • Maintain, service, and repair trailer doors and SafeStack Systems on docked units.
  • Collaborate with shop personnel on minor trailer repairs.
  • Enter job times and parts on repair orders to track activities.
  • Operate specialized tooling and vehicles and keep the work area clean and safe.

What you’ll need to succeed as a Technician Specialist at XPO

  • Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends


Preferred qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent work-related or military experience

  • Prior mechanical training or experience such as automotive or skilled trades

  • Own a set of basic hand tools

  • Have a desire to become a Technician Level 1

    • Disclaimer: Employee will have to have a combination of one (1) year verifiable previous experience with heavy-duty maintenance and time in this role to be eligible for an in-line promotion




About the Technician Specialist job

Pay, benefits and more:


  • Expected pay range: $22.85 to $24.32 per hour. Pay is on an annual step progression. Actual compensation may vary due to factors such as experience and skill set.

  • Hiring 2nd & 3rd Shift

  • $1/hour increase for 2nd shift, 3:00pm - 11:30pm

  • $3/hour increase for 3rd shift, 11:00pm - 7:30am

  • Company-provided uniforms

  • Tool allowance of $400 per quarter

  • Earn up to 13 days PTO over your first year, with accruals starting on day one

  • This is a Motor Carrier Act Exempt position

  • Required to obtain the training, skills, and certifications necessary to qualify for promotion to Trailer Technician within one (1) to two (2) years, including becoming FMCSA-qualified to perform vehicle and brake inspections


What you’ll do on a typical day:


  • Assist with trailer inspections and brake replacement to gain the experience necessary to meet requirements of FMCSA 396.19 and 396.25

  • Complete component replacements

  • Perform maintenance, service, and repairs on trailer doors and SafeStack Systems to units parked at the dock

  • Work alongside technicians in the shop to complete minor trailer repairs

  • Enter job times and parts on repair orders to track activities

  • Operate specialized tooling and vehicles

  • Ensure the work area is always clean, safe, and well-maintained by reporting any damage or negligence to management immediately

  • Interact with operations management and shop management


Technician Specialists are required to:


  • Lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights frequently up to 50 lbs. and occasionally more than 75 lbs.

  • Safely walk and stand for extended periods on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery, including working outdoors in inclement weather

  • Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel
