JOB SUMMARY

Fleet Services By Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Shop Trailer Mechanic II. This is a dedicated on-site shop position, and we do not provide emergency roadside repairs. The Shop Trailer Technician II will be responsible for performing certified DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties such as aluminum and chem-lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, replacement of panels, body, and framework. The Shop Trailer Technician II can perform more advanced repairs under supervision and assists Sr Shop Trailer Technicians with repairs, continuing to learn advanced mechanical skills. A successful Shop Trailer Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high performance metrics.

DUTIES
  1. Always follows and complies with safe operating practices and procedures.
  2. Independently determine parts required for each job and interact with the Shop Parts Department.
  3. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Assist in cleanup at the end of each day.
  4. Apply knowledge acquired through training or experience to perform the job; understand and evaluate technical information.
  5. Work with Service Writer to assess customer needs, provide information, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
  6. Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work, and allocate time effectively.
  7. Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, keep commitments, and behave professionally.
  8. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, DOT Inspections, and follow-up repairs on vehicles.
  9. Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrications.
  10. Use hand tools, precision instruments, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  11. Document work performed, parts used, and findings using company devices and applications.
  12. Complete DOT and other documentation accurately and timely.
  13. Maintain high productivity and work within standard repair times.
  14. Communicate with Shop Manager and team for approvals and notes.
  15. Perform work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies.
  16. Participate in safety training and maintain shop safety checks.
  17. Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer equipment and systems.
  18. Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures.
  19. Diagnose, adjust, and repair trailer systems including brakes, air lines, liftgates, and steering systems.
  20. Identify problems, evaluate information, and generate solutions.
  21. Inspect and test equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
  22. Assist with diagnostics under supervision.
REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. OEM training and certifications preferred. Must possess and supply personal hand tools. Must pass a DOT physical and background screening. Valid CDL-B driver’s license required. Must be at least 21 years old. Current DOT medical card or valid DOT physical required.

CERTIFICATIONS

Required within 18 months: ASE T8 (PMI). Preferred: ASE T4, T5, T6, T7, T608/609.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, ability to lift and perform physical labor, effective communication, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
