Job summary

Quality Carriers, Inc. is seeking a Trailer Mechanic in Sanford, NC to diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on semi-truck trailers and tractors.

You will work from a service truck, follow DOT and company standards, and use manuals or systems to schedule maintenance and research parts. The role requires at least 1 year of tractor/trailer maintenance experience, familiarity with diesel and electrical systems, and the ability to annotate work in software.

Qualifications

• Requires 1+ year of experience with diesel engines, air and electrical systems.
• Experience with tractor and trailer maintenance and DOT rules/regulations.
• High school diploma or equivalent or vocational training required.

Job Summary:

Responsible for diagnosing, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on semi-truck trailers and tractors, including tasks like brake adjustments, tire replacements, electrical troubleshooting, basic structural repairs, and more, all while working out of a service truck and adhering to strict safety regulations; general repairs on tractor and trailer units in accordance with DOT, federal and state regulations and company standards. Uses technical publications or automated systems in maintaining vehicles to prescribed manufacturers’ maintenance schedules and for researching parts. Properly annotates all maintenance and labor performed in maintenance management software.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers.
• Perform annual/systematic 90 day inspections (trailers) on equipment as required.
• Ensure equipment meets Federal FHWA standards.
• Operate a yard hostler truck to move trailers within the facility yard and the shop as needed.
• Able to identify parts and supplies as needed.
• Adheres to all established safety (OSHA) and environmental policies and standards to include identification, use, and proper procedures for handling or disposal of hazardous waste.
• Clean, organize and maintain the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety.
• Using welding equipment.

RequirementsSkills and Abilities:

• Must possess at least 1 year of experience with general knowledge of equipment theory, principles and repair relating to diesel engines, air, and electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
• Must possess at least 1 year of experience with general knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT rules and regulations, company policies and procedures.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent vocational school required.
• At least 1 year related experience required.

Additional Job InformationPosition Type/Expected Hours of Work:

• This is a full-time position, and days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, hours depend on location.
