Job summary

UPS is seeking a Trailer Mechanic in Chelmsford, MA to perform preventative maintenance on trailers and dollies, diagnose issues, and execute repairs on non-power equipment including air brake and electrical systems.

The role requires current trailer mechanic experience, ability to use diagnostic tools and PCs, and a full set of hand tools. DOT compliance and safety are emphasized; shifts include 2nd/3rd and varying schedules with potential overtime.

Qualifications

  • Current documented trailer mechanic experience.
  • Experience using diagnostic equipment, scan tools and personal computer.
  • Possess a full complement of personal hand tools.

Responsibilities

  • Meet D.O.T requirements.
  • Bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb ladders and stairs, stand, walk, and turn/pivot frequently throughout the duration of the workday.
  • Must be willing to work 2nd or 3rd shifts, including Monday through Friday, Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday as needed.
  • Maintain parts and inventory.
  • Report to work on a regular basis and complete scheduled workdays.
  • Work varying hours and overtime as service needs.
  • Lift/move up to 70 pounds; assist with up to 150 pounds.
  • Operate manual transmission.
  • Must meet Power Industrial Truck Operations (PITO) certification requirements.
  • Operate power tools; wear PPE.
  • Work in variable temperatures, humidity, dust, and noise; adverse weather.
  • Communicate effectively to perform tasks and ensure safety.

Job Description

Trailer Mechanic will perform preventative maintenance on UPS Transportation Trailers and Converter Dollies. Will properly diagnose and perform necessary repairs to non-power equipment, including air brake systems and electrical systems.

Ideal Candidate Will Possess The Following
  • Current documented trailer mechanic experience
  • Experience using diagnostic equipment, scan tools and personal computer
  • Possess a full complement of personal hand tools
Responsibilities & Duties
  • Meet D.O.T requirements
  • Bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb ladders and stairs, stand, walk, and turn/pivot frequently throughout the duration of the workday
  • Must be willing to work 2ndor 3rdshifts, including Monday through Friday, Sunday through Thursday as well as Tuesday through Saturday schedules, depending on the location’s need
  • Maintain parts and inventory
  • Report to work on a regular and timely basis and complete the scheduled workday on a consistent basis
  • Ability to work varying shifts, additional hours and/or overtime depending on service needs
  • Sitting required infrequently throughout the duration of the workday
  • Lift, lower, push, pull, leverage and manipulate equipment and/or packages weighing up to 70 pounds
  • Assist in moving packages or equipment up to 150 pounds
  • Simple hand grasping, power hand grasping, fine hand manipulation, reaching from foot level to above shoulder level as necessary to complete assigned tasks
  • Operate standard/manual transmission
  • Must meet all requirements to be Power Industrial Truck Operations (PITO) certified
  • Operate power, pneumatic tools
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment
  • Work in an environment with: variable temperatures and humidity (climatic conditions), exposure to cleaning materials, petroleum products, dust, dirt, and noise, outside inclement weather
  • Have a sufficient ability to communicate, through sight, hearing, and/or otherwise, to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditions

Pay Range

For this union-represented posting, wage rates and ranges and benefit offerings are governed by applicable collective bargaining agreement provisions. The starting pay rate for this position starts at $39.34/hr. The company offers the following benefits for this position, subject to applicable eligibility requirements.
