Job summary

North Coast Land Conservancy is seeking a Trails & Facilities Manager to oversee groundskeeping, buildings, and equipment at Circle Creek Conservation Center in Seaside, Oregon. This full-time, non-exempt role involves coordinating with staff and volunteers to maintain trails and grounds, and to manage maintenance projects.

The ideal candidate has hands-on technical skills, experience with small construction, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing small construction projects.
  • Minimum four years paid experience in maintenance of electrical, mechanical, or other systems, or related work in the construction or agricultural industry.
  • Basic carpentry skills and ability to use hand tools.
  • Basic equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in auger, chainsaw, backpack blower, and similar equipment (both use and maintenance). All blade sharpening for different applications (chainsaw, edger, mower and chipper blades).
  • Have a class C driver’s license.
  • Experience operating and maintaining tractors, riding mowers, brush hogs, and pickup trucks. Ability to operate a small farm tractor, load it onto a trailer and tow with a standard truck.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Experience managing contractors and interacting with the public.
  • Project management skills: Ability to prioritize tasks, develop timeframes, and complete tasks within timeframes.
  • People management: Ability to lead others in assigned tasks, and work well with volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Groundskeeping: Manage groundskeeping around the buildings at Circle Creek Conservation Center.
  • Mowing: Manage contractors and volunteers who support mowing; direct mowing with tractors and mower.
  • Construction: Lead land stewardship projects including fencing, bridges and boardwalks; supervise volunteers and staff.
  • Trails upkeep: Lead volunteer committees and trail days; remove debris and maintain wayfinding signs.
  • Road maintenance: Clear debris from culverts; perform minor road repairs and grading.
  • Hazard tree removal: Remove or supervise removal of hazard trees (certificate may be required).
  • Record-keeping: Complete inspections, invoices, change-orders and habitat activity logs.
  • Events: Occasionally support setup and takedown of events on NCLC properties.
  • Schedule: Develop maintenance plans for buildings and systems.
  • Light repairs: Perform light repairs to buildings and systems; coordinate with contractors.
  • Contractors: Maintain list of qualified contractors; liaise with property management for repairs.
  • Record-keeping: Maintain paperwork for inspections and invoices.
  • Volunteer management: Staff Facilities Committee and manage volunteer activities.
