The Clark County Public Works Department is seeking qualified candidates for the Traffic Systems Technician I/II position. This technical role conducts field installation, maintenance, and repair of existing traffic signals, pedestrian flashers, and school flasher facilities.
In this capacity you will support the Traffic Signal Unit to ensure proper operation of traffic systems. The position includes a training underfill at Technician I with potential non-competitive promotion to Technician II
The Clark County Public Works Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Traffic Systems Technician I/II position. This technical position conducts field installation, maintenance, and repair of existing traffic signals, pedestrian flashers, and school flasher facilities. In this critical role, the ideal candidate will be a part of the Traffic Signal Unit and provide technical support throughout Clark County to ensure proper operation of traffic systems. This role will use software for documentation and record-keeping, understand traffic signal operations, and will troubleshoot and problem-solve traffic signal issues.
The Traffic Systems Technician I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the training program the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Traffic Systems Technician II.
This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

Traffic Systems Technician I - Equivalent to graduation from high school, and successful completion of an Electronics Technician or Technologist Diploma or Electrical Training Program, AND two (2) years of skilled full-time experience in the maintenance and repair of electronic and electrical equipment. Additional experience as outlined above may be substituted for the above education on a year-for-year basis.
Traffic Systems Technician II – In addition to the above: Minimum of one (1) year of full-time traffic signal craft experience.

Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Exposure to exhaust fumes, seasonal severe heat and heavy traffic. Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Must possess a valid Nevada Class C Driver's License at time of appointment and maintain during occupancy of position. Must obtain the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA-10) completion card within fifteen (15) days from date of hire and renew, as required. Must obtain a valid Nevada Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within one (1) year from date of hire and maintain during occupancy of position.
Traffic Systems Technician I - Must obtain valid International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) certification for Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician and Traffic Signal Technician Level I within one (1) year from date of hire and renew certification, as required.
Traffic Systems Technician II - Possess a valid Nevada Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) at time of appointment and maintain during occupancy of position. Must obtain valid crane operator’s certification through National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) within twenty-four (24) months from date of hire and renew certification, as required. Must obtain IMSA Level II certification after two (2) years of field experience as a Traffic Systems Technician I/II and renew certification, as required.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Mobility to work in a maintenance setting, including operating typical trade equipment, hand and power tools, and standard office equipment, and to drive a motor vehicle and operate a lift or boom truck at various work sites including within public right-of-way; stamina to stand, walk and climb, and to work in confined or awkward spaces or from aerial equipment for an extended period of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials, including, but not limited to, manuals, maps, instructions, and labels imprinted on equipment and tools; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone, amid exposure to exhaust fumes, seasonal severe heat and heavy traffic.
