Introduction

The Bureau of Traffic Operations is looking for a talented Traffic Systems Engineer (Civil Engineer Transportation Senior or Advanced) to join the Traffic Systems Unit. This position can be headquartered in either Milwaukee (433 W. St. Paul Ave) or Madison (3601 Pierstorff Street). This position offers a hybridized work schedule. The position will be headquartered at and required to work from the Traffic Management Center in Milwaukee or in Madison at 3601 Pierstorff Street at least 2 days per week. All employees working a hybrid work schedule are still expected to telework from within the State of Wisconsin. This topic will be discussed more at the time of the interview.

Position Summary

This traffic engineer position manages projects and programs in support of statewide traffic operations, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), active traffic management, and connected and automated vehicle (CAV) infrastructure. Duties may include researching emerging ITS technology and their impacts on transportation systems, planning for ITS technology in transportation projects, leading ITS projects, overseeing statewide ITS maintenance program, overseeing the Signal and ITS Standalone Program (SISP), and performing design in coordination with the ITS Engineers. This position may be responsible for testing, integration, and evaluation of new technologies, preparation of procurement specifications, managing procurement contracts, and oversight of product evaluations. This position will support developing design standards, policies, and procedures for ITS.

Salary Information

The Senior level position is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $80,870 - $99,403 depending upon qualifications and experience.

The Advanced level position is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $90,064 - $108,950 depending upon qualifications and experience.

All positions have excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications

A minimally qualified applicant at the SENIOR level will have the following:

• Upon hire, candidate must have graduated from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) ABET accredited college or university with a 4-year bachelor's degree (or Master's or PhD) in engineering OR possess a PE license (registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin OR a valid Professional Engineering registration and be able to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if PE registration is from another state).
• At least 4 years of engineering experience after receiving their engineering degree from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) ABET accredited college or university.
  
  

Additionally, a qualified candidate at the ADVANCED level will have:

• A valid Professional Engineering registration and be able to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if the PE registration is from another state.
