Overview
The Traffic/Streetlight Technician I is responsible for all construction-related duties related to the maintenance and repair of traffic signals.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the installation of traffic and streetlight cable
- Housekeeping of work area and work vehicles
- Re-stocking of work vehicles or storage areas
- Perform pre and post vehicle and equipment inspections
- Basic knowledge of the theory of electricity and electronics
- Maintain excellent safety and driving records and reliable transportation
- Possess an acceptable driving record in accordance with M. C. Dean policy, with ability to drive vehicles up to 26,000 pounds
- Use a computer to pull work orders from online tools and print
- Work flexible hours, including rotating on-call schedules
Job Duties And Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible for:
- Troubleshooting complex electrical equipment to the Lowest Replacement Item (LRI)
- Performing preventative maintenance on equipment
- Working on traffic controllers and cabinets
- Training and supervising team members
- Reading traffic drawings and configuration packs
- Creating as-built sketches
- Working on energized traffic circuits
- Determining conduit and cable requirements
- Understanding contract specifications
- Operating tools like jackhammers and compressors
- Driving large vehicles and towing equipment
Qualifications
Working Conditions and Environment
This position is physically demanding, outdoors, and involves working in various weather conditions and heights, including construction sites and restricted areas. Flexibility for overtime, weekends, and night shifts is required. The candidate must maintain professionalism around customers.
Formal Education
- High school diploma or GED
- 2-3 years of experience in the electrical industry
Certifications
Must obtain within one month of hire and maintain:
- Bucket Truck Operator Certification
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- Confined Space Training Certification
- IMSA Work Zone Safety Certification
- IMSA I Level I Certification
- Flagger Certification
- Miss Utility Training Certification

- Accurate tracking of hours worked
