Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Traffic Signals Technician I:
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus one (1) year of related work experience in construction, electronics maintenance, or traffic signal-related roles.
  • Must have a Texas Commercial Driver License or ability to obtain within five (5) months of employment or an approved extension.
  • Valid Texas Driver License.
Traffic Signals Technician II:
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years of experience in construction, electronics maintenance, or signal-related roles.
  • Education may substitute for experience up to two (2) years.
  • Must have a Texas Commercial Driver License or ability to obtain within five (5) months of employment or an approved extension.
  • Valid Texas Driver License.
  • IMSA Certification Level 1.
Notes to Applicants

Overtime, on-call, and callback rotation duties are required as needed.

The Traffic Signal Technician will be responsible for constructing, maintaining, and repairing traffic and pedestrian signals, signal cables, installing signal poles, arms, and cameras.

After training, participation in emergency repair rotations during off-hours is required.

Pay Rates
  • Traffic Signals Technician I: $22.22 – $24.77
  • Traffic Signals Technician II: $24.08 – $27.93
Driving Requirement

This position requires a valid Texas Driver License or the ability to acquire one by the hire date. A Texas Commercial Driver License or the ability to obtain within five (5) months is also required. External new hires must meet the City’s Driver Record Evaluation standards, with no more than three moving violations or six points within 36 months.

Additional Information

Compliance with Department of Transportation Federal Regulations and the City of Austin Drug Policy is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with electrical equipment maintenance, cable installation, signal or IMSA certification, troubleshooting traffic signals, working in severe weather, using bucket trucks, and computer troubleshooting skills.
