Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a traffic signal maintenance technician to ensure proper function of electronic signaling systems in accordance with VDOT standards. You will perform routine, preventive and emergency maintenance on a large number of traffic signals, communicating with the public, police, and contractors.

Successful candidates will diagnose, repair, and program signal controllers, use test equipment, and maintain detailed records.

Qualifications

Ability to effectively communicate technical information orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to keep detailed and accurate records.
Ability to physically perform hands-on signals and related structures and components.
Ability to plan, coordinate, and prioritize multiple assignments.
Knowledge of traffic signal maintenance and operations.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state and department rules, regulations, policies and standards.

Responsibilities

Maintain a large number of traffic signals through routine maintenance and preventive maintenance programs.
Communicate effectively with the public and with law enforcement.
Program signal timings using a laptop and controller software.
Troubleshoot and repair electronic devices and signaling equipment.
Respond to urgent signal-related issues and 511-related activities.
Perform inspections and ensure safety standards are met.
