Job summary

The City of Huntsville’s Traffic Engineering Department is actively seeking a motivated individual for the position of Traffic Signal Technician I. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and improving traffic signals and automated vehicle control devices as part of a dedicated team focused on ensuring safe and efficient vehicular movement. Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license required.
  • CDL, Class B Endorsement must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
  • IMSA Level I certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Installing, maintaining, and repairing traffic signals.
  • Responding to trouble calls and performing preventative maintenance.
  • Coordinating with contractors and managing signal equipment.

About Our Department

The mission of the City of Huntsville Traffic Engineering Division is to ensure the safe and efficient movement of pedestrians, bicyclists, and motor vehicles through the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of traffic control systems. Our team maintains all signs, signals, and pavement markings within the city.

Position Overview

This technical role involves installing, maintaining, repairing, and improving traffic signals and automated vehicle control devices. Responsibilities include responding to trouble calls, performing preventative maintenance, operating specialized equipment, coordinating with contractors, and building/dismantling signal equipment.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Pass the CDL, Class B Endorsement written test within 6 months of hire
  • Obtain a CDL, Class B Endorsement within 12 months of hire
  • Obtain IMSA Level I certification within 1 year of hire
  • Obtain IMSA Level II certification within 2 years of hire
