Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in traffic signal maintenance and repair.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid Arizona Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) within six months of hire.
  • Must obtain an OSHA-approved Aerial Lift certification within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Complete preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair malfunctioning traffic signal intersections.
  • Respond to traffic signal callouts within a timely manner, and perform emergency repairs.
  • Review plans and specifications to ensure compliance with standards.

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About the Position

Are you looking for a challenging position that will test your technical knowledge? Join us as the Traffic Signal Technician that helps support the Traffic Operations Branch in the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT), where you can help support traffic signal operations, to provide safer roadways and minimize traffic congestion. This position will operate under traffic signal supervisor, you will perform various complex technical tasks and support the traffic signal technicians.

We Require

  • Three years of experience in traffic signal maintenance and repair

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

  • Must possess or obtaina valid Arizona Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) within six months of hire

  • Must obtain an OSHA-approved Aerial Lift certification within one year of hire

  • Must obtain a Traffic Signal Level II IMSA certification and Level I Roadway Lighting certification within two years of hire

Job Contributions

  • Complete preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair malfunctioning traffic signal intersections and ITS equipment

  • Technicians are required to be on-call each month and respond to traffic signal callouts within a timely manner, and perform emergency repairs

  • Repair consists of replacing faulty/damaged wiring, signal/ITS equipment, and ensuring the signal is operating at optimal efficiency for the safety of drivers and pedestrians

  • Review plans and specifications to ensure that traffic signals are built per MCDOT /Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards, and work with contractors to provide technical information and solutions to problems

  • Follow all safety procedures; use personal protective equipment (PPE) and practices per MCDOT policy

  • Complete daily documentation of maintenance and trouble call-outs onto Cartegraph (operations asset management software)

  • Respond to daily AZ811 tickets to locate underground traffic signals and ITS fiber optics facilities

Working Conditions

  • Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly

  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration

  • Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel

  • The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
