Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 1–2 years in installation, testing, maintenance and repair of electrical or electronic equipment and communication gear.
• Valid current driver's license and ability to pass required screenings.
• Experience or training related to electrical/electronic systems used in traffic control and safety.

Job description

Performs skilled work involved for the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices including traffic signals and beacons.

• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot traffic control devices including traffic signals and beacons;
• Use engineering and construction drawings for constructing and modifying traffic control devices;
• Install, splice, and terminate electrical cable and communication cable;
• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot electronics equipment utilized for traffic control devices including traffic signal controllers, detection systems, and cabinet hardware;
• Operate and maintain equipment including aerial hydraulic equipment such as bucket truck, portable truck-mounted crane boom, and platform truck;
• Rotating on call for response to emergency calls at night and on weekends to troubleshoot and repair traffic control devices;
• Perform related duties as required.

Graduation from high school or the equivalent, with one to two years of experience in installation, testing, maintenance and repair of electrical or electronic equipment, and communication equipment, military electrical/electronic training or electrical apprenticeship; or any combination of relevant education and experience that provides the following:

Additional work experience or a Level II IMSA Certification could qualify you for additional compensation

Knowledge of:

• Troubleshooting of electronic, electrical, radio and fiber equipment;
• Operation of equipment used to perform installation and maintenance of trafficcontroldevices;
• Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), National Electric Code (NEC), and National Electric Safety Code (NESC).

Ability to:

• Communicate with others effectively;
• Work at heights in bucket truck and perform strenuous work under all weather conditions;
• Operate bucket truck, boom truck, backhoe, trencher, concrete saw, hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment;
• Perform tasks required for construction, maintenance, and repairof underground and overhead cables;
• Work at times with energized cables and equipment;
• Read and understand drawings, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and maps;
• Work safely in hazardous conditions and follow safety rules.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds;
• Frequently stand and walk during a shift;
• Frequently climb ladders, stairs, and inclined surfaces;
• Frequently bend and kneel;
• Frequently push and pull objects when installing underground cable and overhead communication cable;
• Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees;Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right and left while sitting or standing;
• Reach above, at, or below shoulder height;
• Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
