Description

You must be an EIT to be considered for this position

The purpose of this position is to support configuration, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of traffic signal systems throughout Jefferson County. Responsibilities include managing traffic simulation tools (Synchro and TransModeler), overseeing engineering functions related to traffic projects, and reviewing plans and specifications.

This role operates independently with limited supervision and reports major activities periodically.

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions

  • Manage traffic simulation files and update signal systems with new data.
  • Execute traffic signal retiming projects for coordinated systems.
  • Support electrical maintenance in troubleshooting electrical traffic control devices, ITS communications, and vehicle detection equipment.
  • Evaluate traffic operation concerns and coordinate with maintenance and provide feedback to stakeholders.
  • Perform engineering studies for infrastructure modifications at signalized intersections.
  • Review transportation project plans and specifications.
  • Investigate traffic issues and recommend solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance on traffic standards and policies.
  • Represent the division in meetings.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Three (3) years of traffic engineering experience
Other Requirements
  • Must wear OSHA-mandated safety equipment
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable record
  • Must be an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) and eligible for the PE exam in Kentucky
  • Must apply and take the PE exam on the first scheduled date after hire
Physical Demands

Primarily sedentary work involving walking, standing, and keyboard operations, exerting up to 10 pounds of force.
