Job summary

City of Dallas is seeking an Engineer Assistant I – Traffic Signal to assist in planning, designing, testing, and maintaining traffic signals and related infrastructure. The role supports engineers under a Professional Engineer and conducts traffic studies, simulations, and plan development.

The position involves preparing reports, coordinating with stakeholders, and contributing to safety and efficiency of city traffic operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• EIT certification must be obtained within six months of employment.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record.
• Experience with traffic analysis and pre-emption concepts is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and monitor traffic construction to ensure design compliance and safety.
• Perform transportation/traffic operations planning and design tasks.
• Develop traffic signal timing, ITS and signing plans, and plans checks.
• Prepare reports on construction progress, inspections, and project findings.
• Coordinate with residents, consultants, and city departments on projects.
