Reporting to the Construction Supervisor, the Traffic Signals Construction Technologist will play a key role in constructing new traffic control devices (traffic signals, pedestrian corridors, traffic monitoring cameras) or modifying existing ones. Responsibilities include:

  1. Conduct detailed field inspections across multiple projects to ensure compliance with City specifications.
  2. Coordinate between field operations and office activities during the development of traffic control devices.
  3. Manage stock issues, material requisitions, and recover moneys.
  4. Review project costs and monitor expenditures.
  5. Verify quantities installed for payment processing.
  6. Perform post-construction and environmental inspections, documenting deficiencies and liaising with contractors and project managers.
  7. Record, prepare, and distribute meeting minutes.
  8. Manage job folders, monitor materials, generate reports, and document test results.
  9. Inspect underground conduits via video to ensure damage-free installation and compile reports.
  10. Investigate existing infrastructure issues, including Property Damage Occurrence Reports (PDOR), and prepare reports for engineering design.
  11. Order and coordinate installation of custom signs.
  12. Track inventory, monitor incoming/outgoing materials, and coordinate recycling efforts.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (2 years) and a minimum of 3 years of related experience in traffic signal operations, construction, or utility construction.
  • Experience working directly with contractors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with no more than 6 demerits, no suspensions, or pending charges; personal vehicle use may be required.
  • ArcGIS experience is an asset.
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, effective planning, attention to detail, initiative, and self-motivation.
