Position Details

What You’ll Do
  • Assist on emergency calls, such as malfunctioning equipment and traffic crashes involving signals, lighting, ITS, aviation, navigational lighting, and communication systems, and take appropriate action.
  • Assist in investigating customer service reports related to signal and lighting operations and electronic/electrical traffic control devices.
  • Respond to routine utility locates requests from Missouri One Call.
  • Assist in installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signal equipment, radio communication equipment, ITS, roadway, aviation, and navigational lighting, and other electronic/electrical traffic control devices.
  • Help interpret signal circuit plans and schematics for troubleshooting electronic/electrical components.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED/HiSET, plus completion of a formal post-secondary technical training program in electrical, electronics, or networking (at least 30 credit hours or one school year), or completion of the department’s traffic signal and lighting apprenticeship program (internal employees only), OR
  • One year of signal and lighting field experience.
  • Passing grade on the written CDL exam prior to hire; must pass the driving portion with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions (Class B), and interstate status within 60 days of hire.
  • Successful completion of a work simulation and a medical-physical exam.
Special Working Conditions
  • Heavy physical exertion, including moving materials by hand, operating hand tools, and performing stationary flagging.
  • Exposure to physical hazards, safety risks, and adverse environments.
  • Work at heights requiring fall protection and aerial equipment.
  • Operation of vehicles for snow plowing and ice control.
