Job summary

District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is seeking an experienced Sign Fabrication Technician to join the Sign Fabrication and Installation Branch. The role focuses on fabricating traffic control and parking signs, matching shop orders, and ensuring accuracy of information across signage.

You will operate various sign fabrication tools, interpret drawings, and maintain equipment. The position supports indoor shop work with occasional outdoor exposure and potential sign installation

Qualifications

• Knowledge of DC street system and traffic control signing.
• Ability to interpret drawings and instructions on work orders.
• Basic mathematics and measurement for sign layout.
• Ability to operate sign fabrication tools and software programs.
• Ability to cut and mount letters/numbers from adhesive material.
• Capability to transport materials as needed.

Responsibilities

• Read work orders and ensure sign information matches shop orders.
• Determine materials, colors, sizes, and spacing for signs.
• Apply materials using vacuum, heat, silkscreen, squeegee, and brushes.
• Prepare standard silk screens and transfer to printers.
• Maintain fabrication equipment and workspace.
• May assist in sign installation.
