Job summary
Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) seeks a Professional Engineer to serve as the Operations Design Engineer in the Traffic and Safety Division. This role provides statewide technical leadership, guiding design standards, accessibility, traffic control, and policy implementation to advance safety and efficiency.
You will mentor staff, review plans, refine drawings and specifications, and coordinate with FHWA and stakeholders to resolve recurring design and construction challenges.
Qualifications
- Must be registered as a Professional Engineer in Utah.
- Out-of-state licensees must obtain reciprocity with Utah prior to start date.
- Underfill option available for Engineer II with FE, 2+ years of post‑grad experience.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering or related field.
Responsibilities
- Provide design guidance and plan review for traffic and safety.
- Serve as division's technical expert on pedestrian facility design (ADA/PROWAG).
- Develop and deliver training for field engineers, inspectors, and designers.
- Update and refine UDOT Standard Drawings, Standard Specifications, and design details.
- Coordinate with Region staff, designers, and construction personnel to resolve issues.
- Support ADA inspection processes and access management policies and state rules.
