Job summary

Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking a motivated Professional Engineer to serve as the Operations Design Engineer within the Traffic and Safety Division. This role provides statewide technical leadership in operational roadway design, accessibility, traffic control, standards, and policy implementation to advance transportation safety and efficiency across Utah.

Qualifications

Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Utah.
Out-of-state licensees must obtain reciprocity with Utah prior to start date or start at Engineer II.
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering for Engineer II eligibility.
Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) required for Engineer II level.
At least two years of post-graduate engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Provide statewide technical support and leadership for operational roadway design elements.
Serve as ADA and PROWAG compliance expert for pedestrian facility design on UDOT projects.
Develop and deliver training for field engineers, inspectors, project teams, and designers.
Update and refine UDOT Standard Drawings, Standard Specifications, policies, and design details.
Coordinate with Region staff, designers, and construction personnel to resolve recurring design challenges.
Support continuous improvement of ADA inspection processes, access management policies, and state administrative rules.
Collaborate with FHWA, the Access Board, and industry partners on emerging standards and best practices.
