Job summary

PRIME AE Group is seeking a Traffic Project Engineer II to join our West Palm Beach, FL office. You will support transportation engineering and TSM&O initiatives for FDOT and local agencies across Florida, focusing on mobility, safety, and performance through data-driven analyses.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop expertise in traffic operations, signal timing, and emerging mobility technologies on high-profile arterial projects and smart work zone deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required.
• Master's degree is preferred for advanced responsibilities.
• 2–4 years of Traffic Engineering experience, preferably on FDOT projects.
• EIT certification is required.
• Familiarity with AASHTO, MUTCD, HCM, HSM, and ADA regulations is expected.
• Proficiency in traffic modeling tools such as Synchro/SimTraffic is required.

Responsibilities

• Collect, organize, and analyze traffic volumes, travel times, and signal data.
• Support traffic signal timing and corridor operations analyses.
• Assist with TSM&O and ITS projects, including dashboards and performance monitoring.
• Contribute to Smart Work Zone planning, deployment, and evaluation.
• Prepare technical memoranda, reports, and presentations for agencies.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and FDOT/local agencies.
• Analyze safety, mobility, speed management, and multimodal operations.
• Read plan sets focusing on TTCP and signing/pavement markings.

The Opportunity:

We are currently seeking Traffic Project Engineer II to join West Palm Beach, FL office.

In this role, you will support a variety of transportation engineering and Traffic Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O) initiatives for FDOT and local agency clients throughout Florida. You will work alongside a team of transportation professionals focused on improving mobility, safety, and operational performance through innovative traffic engineering solutions and data-driven decision-making.

This position offers the opportunity to work on high-profile transportation projects, including arterial traffic signal retiming programs, TSM&O studies, performance measurement initiatives, smart work zones, and operational analyses that directly impact the traveling public. You will collaborate with transportation engineers, planners, and public agencies while developing expertise in traffic operations, signal timing, transportation analytics, and emerging mobility technologies.

What You'll Do:

As a Traffic Project Engineer, you will support traffic operations and TSM&O projects through data analysis, operational evaluations, and performance measurement. You will contribute to traffic studies, signal timing and coordination, corridor and mobility analyses, Smart Work Zone deployments, and ITS/TSM&O strategies. You will work with multidisciplinary teams and agency stakeholders to identify, implement, and evaluate improvements that enhance safety, mobility, and system performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collect, organize, and analyze traffic volumes, travel times, signal controller data, crash data, and other operational performance measures.
• Support traffic signal timing, corridor operations, arterial management, and congestion management analyses.
• Support TSM&O and ITS projects, including performance monitoring, dashboards, operational strategies, and system evaluations.
• Assist with Smart Work Zone planning, deployment, data analysis, and performance evaluation.
• Perform traffic engineering analyses related to safety, mobility, speed management, and multimodal operations.
• Use traffic analysis and simulation tools to evaluate existing conditions and proposed improvements.
• Support the design and evaluation of traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, and temporary traffic control.
• Prepare technical memoranda, reports, exhibits, presentations, and recommendations.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, FDOT, local agencies, and multidisciplinary teams.

What You'll Bring:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Master's degree preferred.
• 2 -4 year Traffic Engineering experience, preferably on traffic engineering projects for Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
• EIT certification required.
• Familiarity with AASHTO, MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual, Highway Safety Manual and ADA regulations.
• Working knowledge of traffic modeling including Synchro/SimTraffic is required.
• CORSIM, and HCS is a plus.
• Proficiency in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD would be a plus.
• Strong oral and technical writing skills.
• Ability to handle multiple assignments.
• Attitude and commitment to work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to analyze complex traffic issues and alternates and prepare cogent recommendations.
• Ability to read plan sets with a focus on temporary traffic control plan (TTCP) and signing and pavement marking.
• Familiarity with transportation data analytics, performance measurement programs, and traffic operations studies.
