Job summary

NAB Leadership Foundation in Chicago is seeking a Traffic Producer to deliver accurate traffic updates and help reporters provide fast, engaging information for viewers. You will support live and pre-recorded programs across news, music, talk, and sports formats, guiding presenters and coordinating guests.

The role requires strong writing, research, and collaborative skills, with flexibility for variable hours and a four-year degree in Radio or Media Production preferred.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Radio Producer and/or Assistant.
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills, meticulous attention to detail and ability to tailor content for different audiences and platforms.
  • Ability to generate original ideas and think creatively about communicating to different audiences; knowledge of news and weather.
  • Flexibility to work morning/evening/weekend hours with short notice.
  • Ability to build rapport and gather information from people.
  • Capable of coaching and developing others.
  • Confidence to pursue information and pitch ideas to senior colleagues.
  • Stress tolerance and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong planning, prioritization and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Knowledge of radio production laws, rules and licenses.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social platforms.
  • Four-year college degree, preferably in Radio or Media Production or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake administrative tasks and assist in planning and producing live or pre-recorded radio shows (news, music, talk, sports, traffic, features).
  • Generate ideas, identify suitable concepts, and conduct thorough research.
  • Research information, obtain materials, and assist with contacting and scheduling guests.
  • Direct presenters, content providers, assistants and crew.
  • Monitor listener emails and inquiries related to shows.
  • Collaborate with presenters and other contributors to ensure quality and regulatory compliance.

Job description

Traffic Producer

Bring the pulse of the city to life on screen. As a Traffic Producer, you'll provide information to reporters to enable them to deliver fast, accurate, and engaging traffic updates that help viewers navigate their day. This role blends production savvy and storytelling to keep audiences informed and connected.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake key administrative responsibilities as well as assist in planning and producing live and/or pre-recorded radio shows which may include news, music, talk, sports, traffic, and feature productions.
  • Generate original ideas, identify suitable ideas from others, and carry out thorough research.
  • Research information, obtain materials and assist with contacting and scheduling guests.
  • Give direction to presenters, content providers, assistants and other crew members.
  • Monitor listener emails, inquiries and responses related to shows.
  • Work in collaboration with presenters, performers or other program contributors, in order to perform quality assurance to meet established production standards, rules and regulations.

  • Confidence and tenacity to pursue information, overcome obstacles and pitch ideas to senior colleagues.
  • Stress tolerance: ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure, and to react quickly to changes.
  • Ability to plan and organize, set priorities, multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
  • Full knowledge of the law, rules and industry regulations around radio production, know when it's necessary, and how to acquire relevant clearances and licenses.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and social networking platforms.
  • Four‑year college degree, preferably in Radio or Media Production or equivalent work experience.

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly salary $17.76 – $22.20 per hour. Compensation determined by multiple factors including relevant experience, skills and market data.
