Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Traffic Operator for our on-site management center in Ewing Township, New Jersey. You will monitor adaptive signal corridors and interface with CCTV cameras and signal systems to support traffic operations.

The role requires up-to-date knowledge of traffic engineering principles, strong Excel skills, and the ability to work under pressure as part of a collaborative team with internal stakeholders and partner agencies.

Qualifications

  • Some college is required; Associate or bachelor degree in civil engineering is a plus.
  • Prior related experience in Traffic Engineering/Traffic Operations is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Traffic Engineering/Traffic Operations principles and regional transportation systems/stakeholders is a plus.
  • Proficient level in Microsoft Office suite products/Office 365 with emphasis on Excel-based programming required.
  • Ability to interface with ITS devices such as CCTV cameras and traffic signal systems.
  • Some familiarity with MUTCD and other transportation publications.
  • Some experience with the creation and implementation of QA/QC policies.
  • Ability to gather information from multiple sources, dashboards, and data analytics tools to make informed decisions and evaluate cause/effect relationship of actions taken.
  • Perform tasks effectively under pressure.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task.
  • Must thrive in a team setting and act with professional demeanor and positive attitude at all times.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a self-motivated and qualified Traffic Operator to join our growing Highways & Traffic Engineering team in Ewing Township, New Jersey!

The selected candidate will have the unique opportunity to serve as a traffic operator at an on-site management center in Ewing Township, with the ability to monitor roadway corridors via controlled traffic signal systems and various other intelligent transportation system technologies. This role offers the unique ability to work collaboratively in a changing landscape with internal stakeholders, senior leadership, and partner agencies creating an invigorating career opportunity.

Responsibilities
  • Actively monitor, detect, document, and regularly disseminate information about the health of adaptive signal corridors to help effectively maintain the transportation system through a host of events, both planned and unplanned, to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interface with ITS devices such as Closed-Circuit TV (CCTV) cameras and traffic signal systems.
  • Identify and report potential road hazards, signal timing, construction activities, and/or traffic patterns that impede optimal traffic flow.
  • Gather information from multiple sources, dashboards, and data analytics tools to work collaboratively with team members to make informed decisions about traffic management.
  • Monitor email inbox and reply to messages, as necessary.

Compensation: $34.00-$37.00 per hour (depending on qualifications)
