Job summary

City of Avondale is seeking a Traffic Operations Technician to join the Engineering team. You will inspect, install, repair, and maintain roadway markings and traffic signs, and manage work orders from receipt through completion.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, at least one year of striping and sign installation experience, and a Work Zone Traffic Control certification or the ability to obtain it within 12 months.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Inspect, install, repair, and maintain roadway markings and traffic signs.
• Prepare materials and inventory for upcoming projects and manage work orders from receipt through completion.
• Respond promptly to damaged-sign and pavement-marking reports and support traffic signal and streetlight crews with traffic control when needed.
• Remove, install, and maintain city signs, sign posts, and other traffic control devices; operate related equipment.
• Lay out stripes, painting, and maintain lane lines, center lines, crosswalks, turn arrows, stop bars, and other pavement markings.
• Review signs and striping plans and resubmit with corrections as needed.
• Maintain inventory records and update GIS mapping positions.

The City of Avondale is accepting applications for a Traffic Operations Technician

Join the City of Avondale's Engineering team as a Traffic Operations Technician and help keep our streets safe, efficient, and well-maintained for residents and visitors. In this role, you will inspect, install, repair, and maintain roadway markings and traffic signs; prepare materials and inventory for upcoming projects; and manage work orders from receipt through completion. You will also respond promptly to damaged-sign and pavement-marking reports and support Traffic Signal and Streetlight crews with traffic control when needed.

Removes, installs, and maintains City signs, sign posts, and other traffic control devices as needed. Removes damaged or old signs and signposts. Operates equipment associated with this work such as post drivers, post pullers, and various hand tools.

Lays out stripes, painting, and maintains lane lines, center lines, crosswalks, turn arrows, stop bars, railroad crossings, parking stalls, curbs, and other pavement markings. Operates by using the following equipment: thermoplastic applicators, torches, and various power tools.

Reviews signs and striping plans. Makes corrections and modifications to uphold City and Federal Highway standard details. Reviews submittals and resubmits with corrections.

Receives items, stocks, and inventories all signing and striping materials. Keeps records of inventory through Word documents. Updates inventory through EAM Work Order Program.

Adds, withdraws, and updates signs and striping assets. Syncs proper assets with its GIS mapping position.

Other duties as assigned.

Work Zone Traffic Control certification from the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) or American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA), or the ability to obtain within 12 months from the date of hire.
