Job summary

The City of Champaign seeks an expert electrician to maintain traffic signals, street lighting, and related equipment as Traffic and Lighting Supervisor in the Public Works Department. You will lead a skilled team to ensure safe, efficient traffic flow and infrastructure reliability throughout the community.

The role includes after-hours on-call duties, potential extended shifts for emergencies, and active involvement in snow and ice operations.

Qualifications

• Master electrician level with 4+ years or 8,000 hours of experience.
• Passage of the National Standard Master Electrician Examination (ICC).
• Supervisory experience demonstrating ability to plan/manage subordinate staff.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct a skilled team keeping traffic signals and street lighting in good working order.
• Plan and organize repair and maintenance of pedestrian signals, buttons, school flashers, signs, pavement markings, and JULIE locates.
• Serve as rotating on-call supervisor after-hours and participate in snow/ice removal and emergency response.
